Ferroelectrics and their possible involvement in biology
We present the main properties of ferroelectricity, with emphasis given to a specific family of hydrated ferroelectric crystals, which can serve as model systems for corresponding configurations in biology like the microtubules. An experimental method is described, which allows to establish the ferroelectric property of microtubules in suspension.

During the past few months, we have been primarily occupied with organization of our group and establishment of the initial experimental facilities. The present report outlines the theoretical and experimental programs that have been started. A series of experiments is under way for testing the ultimate frequency stability of the gaseous optical maser. To this end, the thermal and mechanical ef...
متن کاملMagnetic Nanobiocomposites and Their Possible Applications
Magnetic nanoand microparticles have already found many important applications in various areas of biosciences, medicine, biotechnology, environmental technology etc. These smart materials exhibit different types of response to external magnetic field. In most cases they can be described as composite materials, where the magnetic properties are caused by the presence of iron oxides nanoor micro...
متن کاملMathematical Principles In Biology and Their Applications
The observations of carcinogenesis in vitro (Earle, et al.) and of anaerobic glycolysis (Warburg) in cancer are discussed briefly. Professor Hieger is particularly impressed by carcinogenesis in vitro but was not convinced that metabolic change was, at best, more than a concommitant of cancer rather than the cause. Each investigator tends to look at cancer through glasses tinted by the shades o...
